Why should I choose counselling without a Medicare rebate?
While Medicare provides access to a limited number of mental health services through a Mental Health Plan requiring a GP referral, it also necessitates a mental health diagnosis for claiming rebates. This diagnosis becomes a permanent part of your health records, accessible to various entities, including insurance companies, employers, and MyHealthRecord.gov.au. Moreover, Medicare, private health funds, and EAPs impose restrictions on therapist choice, therapy types, and session limits annually, often requiring a second GP referral for additional sessions in severe cases.
Cancellation Policy
We understand that life happens and there may be times when you are unable to attend your session and need to cancel or reschedule. Please notify us at least 24 hrs in advance when cancelling or rescheduling your appointment. Cancellation fees will apply as we have dedicated the time & room to meet with you, and that time is no longer available for other clients. Cancellations with less than 24 hours will attract a 50% of the full session cost, and non-attendance with no notice will attract the full session cost.
Is there a rebate?
Currently clients accessing counselling services through psychotherapists and counsellors are not able to claim Medicare rebate. However the cost for you would likely be similar to your out-of-pocket expense when seeing a psychologist.

Benefits of seeing Counsellor
Opting for counselling with a psychotherapist or counsellor does not require a doctor's referral and ensures confidentiality of personal information, diagnosis, and issues discussed. You have the freedom to choose your therapist and the flexibility for unlimited sessions per year. Counselling addresses a wide array of concerns, including emotional growth, stress management, relationship difficulties, and various psychological issues, without recording a mental health diagnosis on your accessible health records.
Payment
Direct credit, cash and credit cards are all accepted forms of payment. Payment is requested once the booking is confirmed and finalised once the session is attended. Please make payment in advance to secure your session.
